Google maps directions are apparently working well also for India. Here for example I was trying to find a direction from our home in Kolkata to South City Mall , Jodhpur Park , Kolkata.

Well what that means in principle is that next time I am in India and can hopefully get 3G working there can use my iPhone as my GPS :). Now that is cool.
